The American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course reflects science and education from the 2020 Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

BLS Course Description

Los Angeles Career College is offering American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Course. BLS is a certification course for healthcare professionals, who want to learn how to perform Basic Life Support (BLS). The course offers a wide range of life saving skills, which can be used in both in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Upon completion of the course all the participants will receive a BLS Certification, which is valid for two years.

The course is designed to give the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. It includes adult, child, and infant rescue techniques.

  • The importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival
  • All of the steps of the Chain of Survival and apply the BLS concepts of the Chain of Survival
  • Recognize the signs of someone needing CPR
  • Perform high-quality CPR for adults, children and infants
  • The importance of early use of an AED and demonstrate its use
  • Provide effective ventilations by using a barrier device
  • The importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and perform as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
  • The technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
