In order to become a Phlebotomist in the state of California, you will need to complete the following steps:
- Complete a Phlebotomy training program that is approved by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). These programs typically take around 3-6 months to complete and include both classroom instruction and hands-on training. Accelerated Phlebotomy Program require 40 hours of training and 40 hours of clinical experience.
- Pass a certification exam, such as the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) exam.
- Register with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) as a Phlebotomy Technician.
- Meet the continuing education requirements to maintain your certification.
- Look for jobs and apply for the Phlebotomist position, you can find jobs in Hospitals, Clinics, Labs, Blood banks and more
